Ultra-Achromatic TAKUMAR
Pre-set or manual Takumars making images from wavelengths in the Ultra-Violet, Infra-Red or Ultra-Violet and Infra Red spectrum.
Spying or science? No coatings, but high wavelength accuracy beyond the visible spectrum.
AOCo began to experiment with Achromatic lenses as early as October 1962. The Quartz-Takumar 1:5 / 135mm was made for UV photography most likely as a single piece for the Swedish Police Dept www.macrolenses.de/ml_detail_sl.php?ObjektiveNr=305 . It is not a M42 mount lens but the serial number of the copy illustrated (631841) occupies a gap of 144 following the third batch of the contemporary Super -Takumar 2.8/105mm according to my research.
The first M42 lens of this type is the Quartz-Takumar 1: 3.5 / 85mm commercially produced by AOCo in 1963. It was available just prior to the first Olympic Games to be held in Tokyo in 1964 and featured in the 1967 film "You Only Live Twice"(installed in the dashboard of a Toyota car used in a car chase). It is supplied with filters for UV and IR photography www.macrolenses.de/ml_detail_sl.php?ObjektiveNr=238 . Unlike its successors it lacks a focussing ring and must be used with a special bellows unit.
The NOCTA, launched in August 1966, was designed for Infra-Red Tele-photography using an Infra -Red flash with a range of 100 meters maximum. It was equipped with the (single element ?) NC - Takumar 1: 3.3 / 300mm.
The second Quartz-Takumar (preset 361) is quite rare and was replaced in 1968 with the two Ultra-Achromatic-Takumars with automatic aperture lenses (43851 and 43861). All are listed as Special Lenses by Dr Klaus D. Schmitt at www.macrolenses.de/contact.php including links to their instruction manual. The latter are for Visible, UV and IR photography.
