INTRODUCTION
The first Super-Takumar (fully automatic) version of this focal length. A white dot lies on the aperture ring at f=4 (between numerals 5.6 and 3.5) and the distance scales are painted directly onto the focus ring. In early stages of production distance scales were expanded; later the aperture scale was reduced.
Early copies vary in development but two main cosmetic styles were produced. It has a thin metal back-plate and no model number inscribed onto the rear of the aperture switch. Early copies have up to 12 available aperture settings but later copies have 9 settings.
Future versions (e.g. 43571) of this popular focal length have no white dot and distance scales are displayed in a cut-out window. During production the 35mm focal length was the most popular wide Super-Takumar but later, during the Super-Multi-Coated TAKUMAR epoch, the 28mm focal length was more popular.

DESCRIPTION
A white dot (marking f=4) lies on the aperture ring between numerals 5.6 and 3.5. This dot is used similarly on its contemporaries and is absent from future models.

VARIATION
- Snapshot settings (SS) (viz. 15,5,8) appear on gauges after SN 779246 in batch 5. Sn 779259 is earliest observed. This is the third wide-angle lens made with Snapshot settings.
- Early legacy style is replaced by simpler aperture ring and depth of field guides during early production. Aperture settings available are reduced accordingly from 12 to 9.
- Knurling on aperture and focus rings change during production (see below).
NOTES
Snapshot settings are used on guides for all short focal length automatic Takumar lenses including final batches of Auto-Takumar 2.3/35mm to the Super-Multi-Coated TAKUMAR 4.5/20mm.

LENS PRODUCTION (∑ lenses) ∑n =1330 Serial Numbers observed in 88 Batches covering 70,561 SN min. < ∑ lenses < 88,587 SN max.
SN min. = accumulated total of serial numbers observed within 88 batches
SN max. = accumulated total of serial numbers observed between adjacent batches of other lenses.
▼ Snapshot settings (SS) begin; ▼▼ Aperture range reduced from f=22 with fine knurling to f=16 with coarse knurling.
Number of stops reduced, permanently, from 12 to 9. Aperture grip until SN 778331, at least; fine knurled; and Focus ring finger grip formula 12/12 (12 grips, each with 12 grooves).
After the Aperture scale reduced to F=16 the knurling becomes coarse with finger-grip formula of 8/11; and Focus ring finger grip formula 8/12 (12 grips, each with 8 grooves)
Two cosmetic styles;▼▼▼ Oval lettering and SN on nameplate follows the name. Earlier copies have round lettering and the SN is before the name.
