INTRODUCTION
Two early Takumar models were sold. An outstanding (f=16) version was produced for Asahiflex cameras in 1955 with the name "Asahi-Kogaku". Final copies fitted with M42 mounts were used to supply early demand for the Asahi Pentax in 1957.
The Asahiflex lens was replaced by the new all black Model II (f=22) specifically designed for Asahi Pentax cameras with the new name "Asahi Optical Co". This all black model went into production immediately after the Takumar 1: 4/300mm in 1958.
Both 500mm models have build in hoods. Attachments for M42 mount cameras differ and are not interchangeable. The early lens has a three prong attachment and the later one has four prongs.
