INTRODUCTION
A standard lens for portraiture through the 1960's produced with 5 elements in 4 groups. It was given super-multi-coating in a following short-lived version (43641) and then replaced by a new lens (43832). Serial numbers on the three 85mm lenses do not overlap.

DESCRIPTION
VARIATION
- The first batch contains two forms, one with legacy characteristics carrying fine knurling on the aperture grips and minimum aperture of F=22; the remainder have coarse knurling with a minimum aperture setting of F=16 and an aperture formula of A 8/10. The fine knurling is last seen on SN 887381. All later batches contain copies with minimum aperture setting of F=16 with F11/12 and A9or10/10 ring formulae.
NOTES
- The product number on the rear of the auto/manual switch is lacking and the M/A labels are retained on all copies.
- All carry the legacy central orange "lollipop" on their depth of field gauges instead of the orange "diamond"(trapezoid). The latter is used for copies of the Super-Multi-Coated version (43641).
