INTRODUCTION
This short-lived version of the first 200mm Super-Takumar is built on 5 separate glass elements. Around the base of this version are three fine screws that hold the light seal. The Aperture control switch is labelled simply M/A. Early copies lack the inscribed product number.
It is the first 200mm automatic Takumar with a control on the aperture setting for through the lens viewing on SLR cameras. It supersedes two long running pre-set Takumars. The oldest (338) was discontinued to make way for this lens. The smaller cheaper pre-set (351) appeared under a new name and continued to compete with this lens and it's later versions (43761) until it too was discontinued in 1970.

VARIATION
Early copies have no product number inscribed onto the back of the Aperture control switch, but later ones do (37600) from approximately SN 1768174; otherwise there is no variation between copies.
Finger grips on this and all later versions have 10 grooves on both the focus and aperture ring.

All copies I have seen can be clearly identified from the next version. The 37600 by the narrow light seal at the rear and M/A at the switch vs a wide seal and MAN/AUTO on 43761).
