INTRODUCTION
Produced briefly for the Asahi Pentax SL on the domestic market. This lens was sold only in Japan and is rarely found elsewhere. It is the last actual Super-Takumar version of the 50mm. The white dot on the aperture position of the previous model is replaced by the original numeral 2.
Only a few small batches were made over a narrow range of serial numbers beginning with 461xxxx. Those batches alternate with the last small batches of the previous and next models produced in a period of much change.
The lens is based on the open aperture body common to all three models, 37802, 37902 and 37908, easily identified by the 8 bladed iris in their diaphragms. It has 7 layer super-multi-coating using Thorium. This particular model is a rare domestic product often mistaken for the early 37902 copies that were also given the remaining Super-Takumar nameplates before the correct Super-Multi-Coated nameplates arrived.
When reading the model number it is hard to discern between the 9 and the 8 on the Auto-Manual switch. So be warned. The illustration above is a case in point (a 37902 with a Super-Takumar name plate).
