INTRODUCTION

This lens is designed for open-aperture metering available on the last Asahi Pentax cameras (ES, ESII, and Spotmatic F). All previous screw-mounted TAKUMAR-ZOOM lenses, whether fully automatic or manual, lack this facility.

This is the last Takumar zoom lens made with an M42 screw mount.  It was available both in this form and also under the name PENTAX-ZOOM with a K or bayonet mount in 1975.

Earlier TAKUMAR-ZOOM lenses explored the possibilities of tele-photo zooms. This lens took a path towards a more versatile and popular form of zoom lens common today.
