Collection - by camera, name, model, type (version)

Innovation, function and fashion changed Takumars over their production periods and none remained unaltered.
These are the oldest lenses in my collection; all M42 screw mounts. Most are purchased between 2010 and 2015. The notes below describe how they differ from each other.
Takumar Field Guide covers each model more comprehensively by drawing upon examples in a larger range of serial numbers for each lens type.

A u t o - T a k u m a r  1 : 1.8-16/ 55
1960-1962, AOCo Product No.345

Three prototypes were developed. All have an aperture switch for fully automatic or manual control. The switch in Type 1 may differ from that in Types 2and 3.

Type 3 became the prototype "Super-Takumar 1:1.8 / 55" after more cosmetic changes.

Underlining opposite helps comparisons between lenses. Some changes were kept and others rejected.

S u p e r - T a k u m a r  1 : 2 / 55
1962-1965, AOCo. Product No. 345-3, Model I
Type1
Same as Product No.345-2 except the aperture ring lacks f=1.8 mark. F=1.8 is made unavailable by a diaphragm mask: a large fixed ring (allowing only f=2) which can be seen through the front of the lens. Despite this, Type 1 apertures open and aperture rings rotate to the unmarked f=1.8 position, but ineffectively behind the mask.

S u p e r - T a k u m a r  1 : 2 / 55
1962-1965, AOCo. Product No.345-6, Model I
Type2
As Product No.345-5 except aperture ring lacks f=2 mark.
F=1.8 is made unavailable by a diaphragm mask: a large fixed ring (allowing only f=2) which can be seen inside the lens. Early Type 2 lenses also use the unmarked f=1.8 position ineffectively. Aperture rings on later Type 2 lenses cannot rotate beyond f=2.
